Have you noticed lately that everything is getting real clean, real simple and modern. From beer bottles to laundry detergent packaging, logos and ad campaigns all have really simplified their look. What’s up with that and is it just a quick new trend or is it the wave of the future. Lots of people have been talking about cutting through the clutter and that’s what I think it’s about. Eventually design had been getting so textured, so heavy in design elements in order to stand out and let the product, no matter what it is, stand out, you had to go simple. There was no other way to go. Now simple means less is more. But make sure you’re careful when you’re changing your brand, you don’t want to piss-off your loyal customers that are comfortable with what they see when they purchase your product. Tropicana learned their lesson. But overall it makes sense and I like it! It really goes to show that you don’t need every inch of white space taken up by a dot or swirl just to get your point across. Claude Debussy said “Music is the space between the notes.” Well design is the space between the images.
