Pothole Scout

NADA advertising and Minneapolis-based iPhone App developers TouchCurrent Software teamed up to create their first iPhone App and website to track potholes around the US.

How the app works:

  • After starting the app, the user is given two choices: 1. mark your current location, or 2. manually enter an address which is nearby a pothole.
  • A pin identifies the location on the map and the user can then “drag and drop” the pin with their finger and position the pin in the correct spot, as necessary.
  • As a last step, the user can rate the pothole (minor, moderate, severe) and submit a brief comment, i.e.: The pothole almost swallowed my car! Please fix – it’s been in front of my house for weeks!
  • The location and rating of the pothole is then posted our home page’s map.

About TouchCurrent Software:

Twin Cities based TouchCurrent Software released a national pothole tracking website Potholescout.com and corresponding free iPhone app. Drivers no longer have to remember which city they’re in when they hit a pothole, or go through the effort to contact the correct city office to report the problem – a daunting task for metro drivers who travel through multiple cities each day on their daily commute.

Potholescout.com aggregates all pothole locations nationwide into one easily searchable website and residents as well as DOT dispatchers can use the site to identify those bothersome bumps in the road. The site also has the ability to report on cities around the country that are the most “pot-marked” and, in an upcoming release, report on which cities are the quickest, or slowest, to respond to pothole reports.
